Art Fair After-thoughts! - #007
Here we are again, I am loving this blogging for just making notes of my thoughts on business related endeavours. I used to have to blog for my Honours degree and it was great and something different to do while still being productive.
Going into this Art Fair, I hadn’t done one before so I didn’t know what to expect, that being said, I can’t tell you how many hours of YouTube videos I’ve watched and how many blogs I’ve read on just other peoples experiences and what their advice is on everything and it was so useful! (Providing you find the more concise and to the point content and help) I am one of those people that needs to be grabbed from the start to keep my attention on to your content, but honestly I guess most people are like that… are you still here? Comment a little smiley if so, would be great to see and others will be confused! :’)
So I took inspiration from Katnipp Studios who is on YouTube herself (https://www.youtube.com/c/KatnippIllustrations) She has some videos of her setting up for markets from 2017 and has some good progress videos showing what she goes through. I bought those grid storage solutions that everybody has because they are so useful and I made them up to lift my work to eye level and it was such a good idea, thanks Katnipp! <3
“I am one of those people that needs to be grabbed from the start!”
Wins!
For the short term goals for this Fair, I planned on taking my original artwork, christmas cards and some art prints. So this was a win! I’ll add some images of everything so you can take a look, I also kept it all plastic free packaging :)
Grid storage was invaluable for adding different levels to my table! (I recommend)
I was worried my table would look too empty! Wasn’t the case luckily, it turned out lovely! Thank you to my mother and sister for helping me set it up and take it all down! That’s another thing I’ve learned… oh my days it takes so much longer to set up and be happy with it than you think!
Checklists… these are priceless and so valuable to have, make one at least a week in advance for things to take with you like extra batteries… a pen… tape! You get the idea, these things come in handy, you never know! The stall next to me selling cakes ended up forgetting their scissors so they borrowed mine the entire fair!
Bit of a Fail!
I wanted to ideally make up some postcards with my work on as I believe these are a lovely cost effective way for some people to show support to your business if they can’t afford a print (I totally get it <3)
I originally took my pet portrait of Sonny with me to put up on an easel to have his own space to catch peoples eyes. Unfortunately there was a lack of organisation which meant they had to squeeze us up together and I had to take Sonny down from the easel and put him up on my grid storage, sort of made it work, but not as effective in my opinion!
Have you ever done an Art Fair? Let me know! I am curious to see your thoughts on the behind the scenes! Mine are busy and stressful! :’)
